Haven’t done a midweek links in a while, so let’s do this. Let’s talk turkey…or politics, anime, you know the drill.
Anime
- Adult Swim’s “Toonami” Block Announces Return of “Deadman Wonderland” and “Cowboy Bebop” in HD – As someone who adores Cowboy Bebop, this is awesome. Also, check your local cable provider – episodes may already be On-Demand. It is on Verizon FiOS.
- My Favorite (Anime) Things, 2014 – TWWK of Beneath the Tangles apparently does this every year and it’s fun and cute. I’ll let him explain it: “Every year, I revisit the lyrics for “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music and revise them to fit the anime I’ve watched and manga I’ve read over the previous years. I do this just because I like it.”
- These Familiar Anime Characters Got Realistic Makeovers – Weird.
Faith
- Christmas in Japan – An interesting look in how Christmas is celebrated in Japan from Zeroe4 at Beneath the Tangles
- Let’s talk about Moralistic Therapeutic Deism – Adam Ford drops this thoughtful piece in the middle of a comic strip about moral therapeutic deism and the way many Christians view God. Worth a read.
- What’s So Wrong With the Phrase “Happy Holidays” – Jared Wellman over at SBC Voices asks the question – what’s wrong with the phrase “happy holidays?” The answer may surprise you.
- Your Lie in April, Episode 8: Rivals – TWWK of Beneath the Tangles continues his great analysis of the equally great anime series Your Lie in April. This time with the 8th episode of the series. Watch the show here. No, really.
Geek
- ‘Power Ranger’ Jason David Frank wants CM Punk for his first UFC fight – Jason David Frank, the Green/White ranger from the original Power Rangers run is an amatuer MMA competitor. CM Punk, the former WWE wrestler just joined UFC. The two are friends in real life. Frank wants to fight CM Punk for their first UFC bout. Seems legit, to me.
- The 8 Pokemon You’ll Date In Your Lifetime – Comparing relationships with Pokemon. That’s College Humor and yes, it’s actually kind of funny.
- VIDEO: “Mario Maker” Will Include “Super Mario World” and “Super Mario Bros. 3” Level Design Tools – Yes. This looks awesome – making your own Mario levels using SMB, NSMB, SMB3, & SMW! Awesome.
Maryland
- A Significant Step forward for Libertarians – Brian Griffiths of Red Maryland says the election of Eugene Craig to 3rd Vice Chairman of the Maryland GOP is significant for libertarians. Read the piece to find out why.
- Hogan to propose ‘rain tax’ repeal in first legislative package – Good.
- Maryland’s Newest Republican: Frank Conaway, Sr. – Frank Conway, Sr has a long history of Democratic politics in Baltimore City. Also, is a sitting politician. He switched to the GOP after the election. Interesting.
- Three Former Eastside Politicians Named to Hogan’s Team – Ben Boehl of Benstorming reports that three eastern Baltimore County politicians have been appointed to Hogan’s transition team. One is Al Redmer, who’s a former Delegate and member of Ehrlich’s admin. The other two both ran for County Executive in 2010 – Ken Holt (R) and Joe Bartenfelder (D). It’ll be interesting to see what these two men do in 2014. Holt made it a lot closer than people expected in 2010’s Baltimore County Executive race.
National News
- Can We Have a Nonpartisan Serious Moment Here About the Rolling Stone Story? – The now seemingly massively modified to the point of no longer being true Rolling Stone story about UVA needs to be discussed in the realm of bad journalism, but we also have a woman who needs prayer. Don’t forget that.
- The 2016 Field: They All Don’t Suck – Erick Erickson is right, the 2016 GOP field looks pretty solid.
- Reactions to the death of Eric Garner – Both of these are from SBC Voices, both are worth reading. One from a white pastor, the other from a black pastor.
- I’m Not Black, But… by Bart Barber
- Russell Moore, The Gospel of the Kingdom and Eric Garner by William Dwight McKissic, Sr
